The shepherd's pie is a gratin made with mashed potatoes and ground beef (hence the name 'hachis'). This dish is named after the apothecary Antoine Parmentier, who, convinced that the tuber could effectively combat food shortages, had Louis XVI taste it. A family and traditional dish in many countries, it is also economical as it allows you to reuse leftover meat from a roast or pot-au-feu, for example.
