7. Browser Extension

The CookAdapt browser extension (available for Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers) provides recipe extraction directly from webpages you visit.

8.1 Data Collected by the Extension

• Active Tab URL: When you click “Extract Recipe”, the URL of the current tab is sent to our API for recipe extraction. We do not read or collect URLs from other tabs or your browsing history.
• Authentication Tokens: Login credentials are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. Tokens are synced with the CookAdapt web app for seamless sign-on.
• Preferences: Your theme preference (light/dark/system) and language setting are stored locally on your device.

8.2 Extension Permissions

• activeTab & tabs: To read the URL of your current tab and open new tabs to the CookAdapt web app.
• storage: To store authentication tokens and preferences locally on your device.
• alarms: To periodically check the status of recipe extraction jobs while they are processing.
• notifications: To notify you when a recipe extraction is complete.
• scripting: To sync authentication between the extension and the CookAdapt web app, providing single sign-on.

8.3 What the Extension Does NOT Do

• Does not track or collect your browsing history
• Does not read page content beyond the URL you explicitly choose to extract
• Does not inject ads or modify web pages
• Does not share data with third parties (except our own API for recipe processing)
• Does not use remote code — all code is bundled locally within the extension

8. Data Retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active. You can delete individual recipes at any time. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
